Engineering for moulds, stamping tools and precision mechanics

From product idea to manufacturable precision tooling

At Tumag, smart engineering is the starting point of every stable production process. From Turnhout, we develop high-end injection moulds, cutting dies and precision mechanical components for demanding industries. By thinking along with you at an early stage about functionality, manufacturability and process reliability, we translate your design into tooling that is not only technically sound, but also performs cost-effectively in production.

Our approach is distinctly hands-on and practical. Thanks to in-house production, modern CAD/CAM with Siemens NX, and more than 40 years of experience in precision engineering, we design robust tools with short lead times, minimal risks and maximum quality. We also take sustainability into account, as well as efficient use of materials and energy where it makes a real impact.

Co-engineering: designing together for ultimate manufacturability

Tumag works closely with the design and engineering departments of our customers. This co-engineering approach is invaluable for high-end plastic parts, metal components and cutting tools where tight tolerances and absolute repeatability are crucial.

During this early development phase, we analyse, among other things:

  • Product geometry and critical features: Where are the risks in the design?
  • Tolerances and fits: Are the specified requirements achievable and measurable?
  • Material selection and behaviour: How does the material respond during production and use?
  • Manufacturability: How can we produce complex shapes more efficiently?
  • Maintenance and service life: How do we minimise wear in intensive production environments?

By identifying these factors in advance, we avoid costly corrections afterwards. From the very start, we build a stable path towards production, validation and long-term usability.

Tailored engineering for precision tooling

Our expertise goes far beyond mould development alone. Tumag’s engineers support you in the design and optimisation of a broad range of precision tools.

Mould development

In the engineering of injection moulds, we focus on maximum output and consistent quality. We calculate the ideal cooling, venting and ejection to minimise cycle time. In doing so, we closely consider the behaviour of (engineering) plastics, such as shrinkage and demoulding.

Engineering of cutting dies

For cutting dies, our focus is on cutting quality, extreme wear resistance, perfect alignment and repeatability. We translate your product requirements into a robust cutting tool that produces burr-free results and guarantees a stable, long-lasting punching or cutting process.

Precision mechanics design

In precision mechanics, everything comes down to the micron. We focus on extremely accurate dimensions, functional tolerances and the most efficient machining strategy. This is essential for complex prototypes, critical spare parts and ready-to-install subassemblies for the medical, aeronautical and high-tech industry, among others.

Why choose Tumag as your engineering partner?

Tumag is much more than a manufacturing supplier; we are your strategic tooling partner. By choosing us, you choose:

  • Integrated approach: Engineering, CAM, production and metrology under one roof in Belgium.
  • Co-engineering: Proactively thinking along about manufacturability and cost savings at an early stage.
  • In-depth expertise: Years of experience in moulds, cutting dies and high-end precision mechanics.
  • Short lines of communication: Clear communication, quick response times and one dedicated point of contact.
  • Future-focused: Focus on process reliability, long service life and optimal maintenance.

Engineering linked to in-house production

We immediately translate design and manufacturability choices into a realistic, stable production strategy. Because we carry out the machining operations and quality control in-house, we can iterate faster, detect risks early (tolerances, fixturing, cooling, wear, measurability) and ensure lead time and quality more effectively.

Frequently asked questions about engineering at Tumag

Does Tumag only provide engineering support for injection moulds?

No. Although we have strong roots in mould making, we also engineer and produce complex cutting dies and high-end precision mechanical components on a regular basis. This broad expertise enables us to determine the right machining strategy for virtually any precision challenge.

When is the best time to involve Tumag in a project?

The earlier, the better. Early involvement (co-engineering) allows us to assess the manufacturability of the product geometry, material selection and tolerances. This helps prevent design errors, lowers final production costs and ensures a much smoother start to series production.

Can Tumag also optimise existing designs or tools?

Absolutely. We regularly analyse existing moulds, cutting dies or product designs to solve bottlenecks. This may involve reducing cycle times, resolving structural wear, or improving overall production stability. We often combine this with our expertise in mould maintenance and refurbishment.
