What is mould making?
Mould making is the design and manufacture of moulds: precision tools used to form plastic parts in series during injection moulding. The mould determines the exact shape, dimensions and finish of every product that comes out of it, cycle after cycle.
A mould consists of two or more steel halves containing one or more cavities. Molten plastic is injected into these cavities under high pressure; after cooling, the mould opens and the formed part is released. The more complex the product and the tighter the tolerances, the higher the demands on the design and machining of the mould.

From design to precision mould
A high-performing mould starts long before the first machining operation in our workshop. We work closely with your design and engineering team to optimize the functionality and cost efficiency of your design for the injection moulding process.
Using advanced CAD/CAM systems, we translate your design into a technically developed mould concept. We proactively take into account critical factors such as material behavior, shrinkage, demoulding and cooling.

In-house mould production for maximum control
Because engineering and actual production are fully integrated, we avoid communication loss and can respond extremely quickly. From the initial rough machining to final assembly: every step is carried out and controlled in-house. For production, we use a wide range of machining techniques:
- CNC milling and HSM milling for complex 3D geometries
- CNC turning and mill-turn combinations for precise cylindrical components
- Deep hole drilling for drilling deep and precise cooling channels
- Sink EDM and wire EDM for extremely fine detail work
- Grinding for perfect fits and finishes
In addition to this machining precision, the craftsmanship of our toolmakers is decisive for the flawless assembly and adjustment of all moving parts in the mould. We apply that same expertise to the production of cutting tools and precision components.


Specialist in 2K and multi-component moulds
More and more innovative products combine different plastics into a single component (for example, a rigid core with a flexible seal or grip). With our expertise in 2K moulds and multi-component tooling, we develop solutions in which multiple materials are seamlessly combined in a single production cycle.
Building a multi-component mould involves a high level of complexity. It requires in-depth knowledge of the chemical bonding between polymers, shrinkage differences and precise positioning. The result for you: less post-assembly, higher product quality and a significantly simplified production process.

Trial injection moulding and mould validation
Before we deliver your new mould, we want to be one hundred percent certain that it performs perfectly. That is why we thoroughly validate the mould in our own injection moulding department. Here, we can also directly injection-mould the zero series or small production runs for you. The moulded parts are then measured on our CMM, so you can see in black and white that the mould produces within the agreed tolerances.

What is the difference between mould making and injection moulding?
Mould making and injection moulding are two consecutive steps. In mould making, the tool — the mould — is designed and manufactured. Injection moulding is the production process in which that mould is used to form plastic parts in series. We build the mould and validate it in our own injection moulding department, ensuring that shape and dimensional stability are confirmed before series production begins.
What types of injection moulds do you build?
In addition to standard single-cavity moulds, we design and manufacture high-quality multi-cavity moulds, 2K moulds for multiple components, and modular interchangeable moulds such as our own FlexMould system. The best choice always depends on your product, the expected volume and the desired cycle time.
What is a 2K mould?
A 2K or multi-component mould is an injection mould designed to combine two or more different plastics (or colors) in a single production cycle. This is often used for products that require, for example, a rigid metal or plastic core with a soft, flexible grip or seal around it.
How many products can be produced simultaneously in a single mould?
In theory, the number of cavities in a mould is unlimited, as long as the injection moulding machine can provide sufficient clamping force. At Tumag, however, we specialize in highly complex precision moulds. To guarantee absolute dimensional accuracy at micron level, we primarily focus on moulds with a lower number of cavities, such as 4-, 8- or 16-cavity moulds.
What if the design of my product changes later?
In practice, a product design is rarely final from day one. Because we have both engineered and manufactured the mould in-house, we can make design changes (design iterations) quickly and efficiently to the mould components in our own workshop. You can also rely on us for later revisions, cleaning or repairs, with fast service guaranteed.
